Dry latex paint for landfilling by leaving the lid off, or dump clay absorbent like kitty litter into the can to soak up. Try layering the paint in a cardboard box, letting each layer dry. Be sure to work in a well ventilated area! Latex is not considered hazardous in Iowa.

New Sharps collection program: Prairie SWA is collecting diabetic sharps beginning March 2008. They must be delivered in a firm #2 plastic container such as a commercial sharps container or bleach or detergent jug one gallon size or smaller. Disposal fee is $3 per container. No businesses please—diabetic sharps only, no other type sharps accepted. |

|
New Thermostat collection program: Older thermostats contain mercury—so we don’t want them laying around your house, or worse yet, broken in the landfill. Mercury affects many parts of the body including the nervous system. Put your old mercury thermostats (and thermometers) into a ziplock and deliver to Prairie SWA. No charge for this service. |
