The Regional Collection Center (RCC) is a facility at the Union County Landfill designed to collect household hazardous waste by appointment. The Prairie RCC is open for business .  Call 866-282-8787 Toll Free.

The Prairie RCC will accept household hazardous materials from residents of Taylor, Adams and Union counties by appointment.

Dry latex paint for landfilling by leaving the lid off, or dump clay absorbent  like kitty litter into the can to soak up. Try layering the paint in a cardboard box, letting each layer dry. Be sure to work in a well ventilated area! Latex is not considered hazardous in Iowa.

New Thermostat collection program:

Older thermostats contain mercury—so we don’t want them laying around your house, or worse yet, broken in the landfill. Mercury affects many parts of the body including the nervous system. Put your old mercury thermostats (and thermometers) into a ziplock and deliver to Prairie SWA. No charge for this service.
